DESCRIPTION
Innovation is a collaborative motion graphics project exploring how movement and kinetic typography can communicate different interpretations of a single idea. Each student was assigned an action word that guided the animation of “INNOVATE,” resulting in a collective series that demonstrates how one word can take on different personalities, rhythms, and meanings through motion.
Working within a limited set of visual constraints, the animation could only feature the word “INNOVATE” alongside supporting geometric shapes and Iowa State’s Cardinal, Gold, Black, and White color palette. These limitations encouraged experimentation with timing, scale, composition, transformation, and movement rather than relying on additional imagery or text.
The final animations were brought together as a collective showcase, highlighting the range of creative interpretations possible within a shared visual system. The project became an exploration of how intentional motion can transform typography from something static into an expressive form of visual communication.
